Artifacts:

In March 2017, my paper sculpture which demonstrated basic concepts in sculpture: high relief three dimensional form and movement, was selected for the Juried Student Show at USM.  The process which I created, involved using diverse found materials to build up an image on which the pulped paper could be applied, creating these forms which have been the focus of my work.

In order to link prior learning I used the internet to show students a broad range of artists working with our current lesson of sound sculpture, a melding of two disciplines which are a part of their curriculum.  Videos depicting sculpture with sound were accessed and viewed, creating an atmosphere of discovery and fun as the students witnessed elements in their home world that artists have repurposed to create art with sound. One such artist is Wintergatan and his Marble Machine.  <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/IvUU8joBb1Q" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

When planning for lessons involving two grade levels, even though they are close in age (second and third graders) the intended subject of sound sculptures was modified for each grade to make the construction fit with their capabilities.  While still considerating the Elements of Art and Principles of Design:  color, line, pattern, balance, and texture for this lesson, the materials at hand were considered for their appropriateness to the ages and divided up between the grades.  Also, by using these different materials for each grade a variety of new ideas were discovered for future sound sculptures.
