When brainstorming for a unit idea art advocacy was an inspiring theme. To simplify this broad topic, choosing environmental advocacy seemed feasible. The three lessons that are developed for this lesson focus on reusing, recycling, and repurposing materials that already exist into artistic forms. These may be viewed, smelled, or inspired by the pressing environmental changes that are occurring in today's society, and the products can be viewed as symbols environmental awareness.

Unit Plan Overview

My particular piece of the lesson focused on building sculpture using recyled materials such as plastic bottles, bags, foam, etc., all of which the students considered to be trash. This lesson opened up a discussion on ways that humans can reduce their impact on the environment in more creative ways.

Art Advocates- Recycle and Reuse

This particular lesson section of the lesson was developed by my art lab partner Juliette Jones, it turns common household spices into watercolor paints. Students then create images using their organic materials.

Painting From Your Kitchen

The third lesson to the unit focuses on collaborating text and drawing in a non-traditional form. Using pages from used environmental science books or dictionaries students develop their own personal discographies entailing their relationship to the planet.
