Standard 2: Student Development

Demonstrates the ability to integrate the concepts, tools of inquiry, and structures among the disciplines.  Candidate performance demonstrating the following capabilities informs this standard.

  1. Create learning experiences in which students are required to construct knowledge and test hypotheses using the methods of inquiry and standards of evidence of multiple disciplines.
  2. Encourage students to recognize and respect the interdependence of all knowledge and ideas by combining and integrating knowledge of different disciplines.
  3. Pursue and acquire material and human resources in various disciplines for classroom use.

Artifacts:

1. While talking about pattern with my first grade students at Ocean Ave Elementary, students recalled the different types of patterns that can be created. We applied the different elements of art to pattern and talked about patterns in writing such as poetry, and using numbers in math.

2. Working with Side X Side at

Ocean Elementary School students were encouraged to integrate the content in their science lessons into the art projects. The second grade classes learned about types of landforms in their classrooms and applied the knowledge to creating an abstract looking landform of their own.

3. My third grade students are studying traditional African culture masks while they develop their own design. Our discussion linked symbolism, symmetry, and the elements of art together in creating a unique and orignal design.
