Disappearing Squares!

Using their newly acquired and now masterful paint mixing skills from the Creative Color Wheel Lesson, my FHS students then magically made magazine clippings “disappear” on their canvases. This was a brand new, never-before-seen lesson, and a fairly daunting one at that. The students were given the challenge to find two 2x2 inch magazine clippings that had at least two distinct colors in each. They then decided which colors they wanted to emphasize to evoke a certain mood in their painting and what the composition of their painting would be, based on the patterns or textures in their squares. The biggest challenge then, was to make those two magazine squares "disappear" by mixing paint to match the exact color of the edges of each square.
