ASSIGNMENT 02 – part a: BIOGRAPHICAL STATEMENT 
Compose a very abbreviated biographical statement, no longer than 160 characters. Make sure your name is included in the 160 characters. 

ASSIGNMENT 02 - part b: CREATE QR CODE

QR code is short for Quick Response (the codes can be read quickly by cell phones). They are used to take a piece of information and put it on your cell phone. The code consists of black modules arranged in a square pattern on a white background. The information encoded can be text, URL or other data.

Using the Kaywa Code Generator http://qrcode.kaywa.com/ generate a static QR code using the text option. Click on the permalink option, which will bring your code up on a page by itself. Control click on the Mac or right click on the PC and choose save image as, and save to your desktop.

Open the image in PREVIEW and use the Tools Menu to adjust size to 4 inches. Make sure to uncheck resample image. Print the image and bring to class on Wednesday, January 21rst. Printing can be done in the Luther Bonney Computer Center or at the Library, or you can use your home computer and printer. Make sure the black is dark and dense. We will be cutting the QR out leaving a small white border and attaching it on an 11” x 17” piece of Bristol board.

Following the same guidelines as above, find a black and white pattern that you like and print so that the shortest side is at least 6” w (it can be slightly more). It is very important for the resolution to be good; if you find the image online, be sure that the resolution is at least 1024 pixels on one side. 

We will be mounting the 4" QR on the pattern, cutting the pattern so that it measures 6" x 6". Please select a pattern that adds a decorative border to the QR; it should enhance the visual appeal of the code to provide a more compelling viewing experience. 

Prints of QR and Pattern Due Wednesday, 21rst; mounting will be done in class next week. 

Goals of Assignments 01 and 02: 

To reflect upon ones own motivations, aspirations and aesthetic views and to communicate these to others using images and text; to experiment with creating QR codes, which use high contrast positive & negative shapes to create a visual pattern that can be decoded using a cell phone; to become sensitive to resolution issues and print quality; to think about image processing and the various effects that can be achieved by photomechanical processes.
