RESPONSE - Past Futures: Science Fiction, Space Travel, and Postwar Art of the Americas

Describe the exhibition as if you are explaining (what it is, who did it, where it is being presented and what it is about) to someone who hasn’t seen it. Please use your own words. Do not simply grab descriptions from gallery panels, although these can be used to inform your description.

Choose one work of art from the following exhibition categories: CHALLENGE OF THE NEW MAN; WITNESSING OUTER SPACE; PRIMORDIAL TERRAINS; PRESENT FUTURES. Describe the formal characteristics (color, value, texture, composition and etc.) Please discuss the relationship of the work to its sub-theme (categories mentioned above). What personal associations do you bring to the work? Does it remind you of anything? Is it related to your own experiences somehow? Does it give you insight to experiences that are completely foreign to you? Does this work draw you in or move you on an emotional level? Say more.

Would you recommend this show to a friend? Why or why not?

Please feel free to add to this response with anything else that you would like to say. Please type. Due Monday, April 27th.

Thank you! JP
