Chance: the unknown and unpredictable element that causes an event to result in a

certain way rather than another

In this assignment you will be asked to deliberately incorporate the element of chance into your drawing process. The purpose is to present possibilities that you may not have thought of otherwise.

Step 1: Draw a 1" grid on a sheet of recycled drawing paper, and mark the X and Y coordinates in the following way.

On a strip of paper, write numbers representing the X and y coordinates and put them in separate piles. Draw a number from each pile; these determine the position of your object on the page, which should be centered on the x and y coordinates.

Make a list of 21 numbers (1-3) and draw "from a hat" one number. 1=large; 2=medium and 3=small. This determines the size of your object on the page.

Make a list of 20 numbers (1-5) and draw "from a hat" one number 1=blind contour; 2=contour; 3=smooth tone shading; 4=hatching and 5=cross-hatching.

This determines the drawing approach you will use.

Repeat this process 7 times and proceed to make a drawing with seven objects on the page. Due on Wednesday!
